An Automated 3D Algorithm for Neo-cortical Thickness Measurement
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new method is presented for fully automated regional quantification of the human neo-cortical thickness from 3-D MR images. The method does not require explicit extraction of the cortical surface, but instead is based on a geodesic distance transform of the binarized 3-D volumetric gray matter map obtained by automated segmentation. Regional cortical thickness distributions are derived by atlas-based partitioning of the brain. Results for 64 normal controls are presented that show very good agreement with published reference values.

LOGISMOS-B for primates: primate cortical surface reconstruction and thickness measurement
Cortical thickness and surface area are important morphological measures with implications for many psychiatric and neurological conditions. Automated segmentation and reconstruction of the cortical surface from 3D MRI scans is challenging due to the variable anatomy of the cortex and its highly complex geometry. While many methods exist for this task in the context of the human brain, these me...
متن کاملA Semi-Automated Algorithm for Segmentation of the Left Atrial Appendage Landing Zone: Application in Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedures
Background: Mechanical occlusion of the Left atrial appendage (LAA) using a purpose-built device has emerged as an effective prophylactic treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke and a contraindication for anticoagulation. A crucial step in procedural planning is the choice of the device size. This is currently based on the manual analysis of the “Device Landing Zone” fr...

متن کاملAssessing the Changes of Cortical Thickness in Alzheimer Disease With MRI Using Freesurfer Software
Introduction: In this study, we intend to determine the correlation between the thickness of the cerebral cortex and the severity of the cognitive disorder in Alzheimer disease (AD). Methods: A total of 20 (14 women and 6 men) patients diagnosed with AD with a Mean age of 72.95 years, and 10 (7 women and 3 men) cognitively normal (CN) subjects with a Mean age of 70.50 years were included in th...
متن کاملDetection of cortical thickness correlates of cognitive performance: Reliability across MRI scan sessions, scanners, and field strengths
In normal humans, relationships between cognitive test performance and cortical structure have received little study, in part, because of the paucity of tools for measuring cortical structure. Computational morphometric methods have recently been developed that enable the measurement of cortical thickness from MRI data, but little data exist on their reliability. We undertook this study to eval...
